Today’s ride felt really a short one as we are now accustomed to 100
miles or more per day. Riding 50 miles with only one or two brief breaks now
seems to have become the norm. The day dawned cloudy and cold. Towards the end,
we were shrouded by fog with diminished visibility adding to the danger of
riding a bicycle. The condensation on the roads made them very slick.
Fortunately, every one of us made it safely to Sundance, WY. 4 of the riders also
did the Devil’s Tower option that added a few more miles and some elevation gain
and loss. Given the forecast for rain, and the poor visibility, and the
recommendation of our guide Amy, the large majority of us chose to ride straight
to Sundance. Today is our last day in Wyoming. Tomorrow, we enter South Dakota.
We are staying at the Bear Lodge Motel. We had dinner at Longhorn Saloon &Grill. I am the only vegetarian in the group.
Of the four of us that ride together, Randy and Janis did
the Devil’s Tower option and Nicole and I headed straight to Sundance.
This is how the Devil’s Tower would appear on a bright
sunshiny day. To read more about the Devil’s Tower, click here.

Locomotives pulling hundreds of freight cars carrying
thousands of tons of coal from the mines were a common sight in and out of
Gillette, WY.
I have uploaded a video of me racing a locomotive on
YouTube.
If watching that video makes you go “Wow”, make a $1
donation to the Lewis County Humane Society.
